John Wyndham was born John Harris in Warwickshire in 1903, the son of a barrister. During the 193os he wrote many short stories, mostly for American pulp magazines, but his reputation rests on the trio of catastrophe novels he published in the 1950s : The Day of the Triffids, The Kraken Wakes and The Chrysalids. He died in Hampshire in 5969. The Chrysalids was published in 5955, the third of Wyndham's catastrophe novels and regarded by many as the best.
