Résumé

This book traces the long history of wars and peace in China, and the many civilized and uncivilized stages of Chinese history. It has often been said that China has a long history of over 5, 000 years. But from the most recent archaeology, it is now known that its history may be as long as 20, 000 years. The full story of the history of China is comprised of three very distinct periods. These are the Legendary History, Prehistory, and Recorded History.
And overlaying these three periods, there are the many great build-ups and the many disastrous break-ups of states and dynasties throughout Chinese history. The book enumerates and describes all the key events and the many dynasties in the long history of China. It notes that if we can draw some useful lessons from the long and tortuous Chinese history, it is that wars and conflicts are inevitable, but peace can be secured with good leadership and good follower-ship.
And we all need to be more compassionate and less selfish if we want more peace and less wars in the world. The many wise teachings of Confucius from almost 2500 years ago still ring true today. This includes the most down-to earth and the most sensible advice that we should not do to others what we do not wish to be done to ourselves.
