Résumé
This history book is dedicated to the female, rural, unemployed workers of Crossroads in Cape Town South Africa, who stood firm through the terrible hardship of mass forced removals of 70 000 people in the pivotal 1980s. They won the right for the unfree masses to stay in Cape Town. The struggles of the unemployed in South Africa contributed to the liberation of the masses from the yoke of apartheid.
This book introduces a new history timeline of struggle. It presents a comparative study of unemployed struggles in the 1930s in the USA, UK and SA and the leading role of the Communists in the struggles. By the 1980s it was the Trotskyists who led the struggles for the rights of the unemployed. The book also presents an interesting insight into the development of underground Socialist movements in the 1980s and traces their origins.
Essential reading for anyone interested in the untold stories that are often brushed aside by mainstream historians. This is part one of a 3 part collection.
