Emma and Mr. John Knightley have been married for four years. However, this marriage is not a fairy tale one. While Jane Fairfax and Mr. Frank Churchill, and Emma's other friends, are doing much better, Emma is still frustrated because she has not been able to be a mother neither fulfill her ambitious goals, and she continues to envy her bitter adversary, Jane Fairfax, who enjoys what life has denied her. Furthermore, Mr.
Frank Churchill, advised by the two best lawyers of the country, is in London because he has filed a case in the Court of Chancery, aspiring to become the Earl of Fordgraham. Nonetheless, Emma cannot allow this, and with the firm hope of obtaining a noble title, and not being defeated again by the Churchills, and entering high society, she heads to the city, executing her plan, discovering that her family can also dispute that title.
However, Jane Fairfax and Augusta Elton accompany her, forming an atypical trio of investigators. And the situation becomes complicated by the theft of a genealogy book with information about Emma's ancestors, the kidnapping of Mr. Frank Churchill and the existence of a mysterious letter, used by Lord Flemming's lover to blackmail him, while the Prince Regent trembles, facing with an imminent scandal, which could end his government. So this atypical trio led by the new detective Emma, who was asked for help by the Bow Street Runners, must deal with these cases, but the final sentence of the Court of Chancery, in the face of the emergence of new candidates, may surprise all those involved, and that tense relationship between Emma and Jane Fairfax changes, unexpectedly.
