Résumé

Eruptions on the sun produce waves of photon radiation that spreads out across the solar system. This radiation washes over the earth and can produce electricity in certain materials, especially silicon. Solar panels create DC that can be converted into AC or stored in a battery for later use when the sun isn't shining. Grid connected and off-grid connected systems are described. Then the book describes custom solar generators and the types of solar panels currently being used.
Each has unique designs, sizes, and electrical performance. Various components of a solar powered generator are described including how to measure electrical performance. An example of a rain barrel is used to describe how a solar powered system produces electricity. This is followed by a discussion on how to create and operate your own custom solar electric generator. The effects of the path of the sun across our sky and the rotation of earth affect solar electric generation.
Earth's tilt toward the sun creates the hours of sunlight and peak sun hours when solar panel output is highest. Then the effect of shadows and the angle of the panels toward the sun determine how much production from solar panels is possible. The book provides lists of what others are using solar power to operate, typical consumption of appliances and devices, how much solar power is required for each, what solar panels are currently available and how to determine the number of solar panels needed to provide the solar power you want.
Technology can solve electrical issues facing our world today. Here's how you can make your own solution to achieving independent and comfortable living while supporting sensible climate policies.
