Résumé
The newly revised edition of the piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven in the Vienna Urtext Edition is the only one of the more recent urtext editions that is based on a wide range of sources, including autographs, reviewed copies and first editions, as well as early reprints published during the composer's lifetime and Haslinger's complete edition. This is especially important for those sonatas of which neither autographs nor copies are extant.
The edition contains a Critical Report in German and English in which the complex source problems of these sonatas and the editorial decisions are explained in a comprehensible way. This makes the volume an indispensable tool to those studying these outstanding works of piano literature. Instrumentation : piano
