Résumé
Linear Algebra: An Introduction Using Maple is designed to provide a positive and fruitful experience during a first encounter with linear algebra. Mathematical ideas are presented as a store, built on the solution of linear systems. Gaussian elimination and the singular value decomposition serve as motivating themes. Maple provides students with frequent opportunities to engage in modest forms of research, enabling individuals or groups to work on meaningful projects. The author's narrative presentation is enriched by the interactive use of Maple. Programming and computational complexity are kept to a minimum. Szabo uses Maple's symbolic and numerical calculation capabilities to distinguish between exact and approximate solutions of mathematical problems. Linear Algebra: An Introduction Using Maple provides a uniquely concrete foundation for the fundamental issue of linear algebra: solving linear systems.
